As most of you are aware, a number of Recess organizers have left the organization citing intractable conflict within the group. We are in the process of grieving and reflecting on what this means for our community, for Recess as an organization, and for the individuals and relationships involved.
Out of respect for the gravity of the conflict and for the purpose of creating space and time for reflection, we are canceling Mendocino Magic and putting Recess on hiatus. It is our hope that there will be a Recess Community Campout in California this May. This gathering will be a space for our community to come together and grieve the leaving of important community members, help learn and grow from our past mistakes, and decide on the future of Recess; as well as dance and be in community together as promised. With this goal in mind, we have contacted mediators who could facilitate the community conversations. We are also currently looking for community members interested in organizing the space. We don’t feel it would be appropriate or useful for Recess organizers to be directly in charge of this project. Please let us know if you're interested in working on this endeavor.
While this conflict is organizational and interpersonal, we understand that it involves an entire community. If you would like to tell the remaining Recess organizers something, we have created a this comment form for that purpose. It has the option to have your comment be anonymous.

We are beyond excited to return to California after a year off. Recess Organizers went on rigorous hill scampers, casting off garments and rolling around the wilds of California looking for a perfect venue. And they’ve found it! Mendocino Magic is tucked away in the hill sides of Mendocino county. Once an old lumber mill, it now boasts a private lake with boats and a tiny tea bar, an open air stage (read: dancefloor) with trees emerging from its center, a cosy old mechanic's garage hung with chandeliers, a huge flat hill top for dancing and star gazing, and a huge kitchen fire pit for brewing delicious magic.
This is a mostly camping event, with some rooms available to rent (first come first served), hot showers, and an outdoor bathtub.

Tentative Event Schedule
Thursday Arrival: Dinner + opening circle at 7pm. Feel free to arrive anytime after 3pm, but know that we'll joyfully ask (and expect) you to help us set up! Music starts at 9pm.
Daily Meal Times + Announcements: (All heavy on the "ish") 11am brunch, 6:30pm dinner, 1am late night snack.
Dancing Nightly: 9pm to when we stop. With venue changes and transitions...
Daytime Playtime: Time for skill shares and hanging out!
Monday Noon: We miss you already, thanks for the beauty! Now let's clean up and start dreaming about next time.
